Kilcooley pupils wrap up a visit full of festive cheer at Oakmont Lodge
Bangor-based Oakmont Lodge Care Home, which is owned by Dunluce Healthcare, has been filled with festive spirit thanks to pupils from Kilcooley Primary School.
The pupils, who delivered personalised Christmas cards to residents, have a long-standing relationship with Oakmont Lodge, regularly visiting the care home throughout the year and even attending the home’s summer party, strengthening connections and fostering a strong sense of community.
Earlier this year, Primary 7 pupils from Kilcooley Primary School also marked a special milestone by sharing a poem to celebrate resident Will’s 102nd birthday, a moment that was warmly received by residents, families and staff alike.
Speaking on the partnership, Catherine Rae, Residential Manager at Oakmont Lodge, said:
“We are always thrilled to welcome pupils from Kilcooley Primary School to Oakmont Lodge. Their visits bring so much happiness to our residents, and the personalised Christmas cards were a lovely and thoughtful gesture.
“The ongoing relationship we have built with the school means a great deal to everyone here and highlights the positive impact of intergenerational relationships.
“Throughout the year, residents at Oakmont Lodge enjoy a wide range of activities, from birthday and anniversary celebrations to surprise visitors, festive music, creative workshops and seasonal parties, all designed to support wellbeing and create meaningful moments.”
Johnny Hall from Kilcooley Primary School added:
“Our pupils really value their visits to Oakmont Lodge. These experiences help them build empathy, confidence and a strong sense of community.
“We’re looking forward to returning again in the coming weeks to continue this wonderful partnership.”
